Caring for your Alchemiele Jewelry Pieces
I believe jewelry is meant to be loved, worn regularly, and to last. Follow these steps to ensure your jewelry will last for years and receive all the love it deserves!
Avoid Chemical Contact
Caring for your jewelry by avoiding harsh chemicals is essential to maintaining its beauty and longevity. Chemicals found in household cleaners, swimming pools (chlorine), and personal care products like hairspray, perfume, and lotion can cause significant damage to various types of jewelry. These substances can tarnish metals, erode settings, and dull gemstones. To protect your pieces, always remove your jewelry before cleaning, swimming, or applying beauty products. Additionally, consider putting on your jewelry last when getting ready to minimize exposure to these harmful substances. By taking these precautions, you can ensure your jewelry remains in pristine condition for years to come.
Cleaning and Storing
To prevent scratches and tangling, store each piece separately in soft pouches, individual compartments, or jewelry boxes with dividers. If you do not have access to these, wrapping necklace chains around a square of card stock can help with tangles and if tangles do occur, a sewing pin or two can help in detangling! Ensure your storage space is a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture, as excessive heat and humidity can cause metals to tarnish and gemstones to lose their luster. For metals that are particularly prone to tarnishing, like silver and copper, use anti-tarnish strips or cloths within your storage containers to further protect your pieces. By taking these steps, you can keep your jewelry looking its best and avoid unnecessary damage.
You can clean your jewelry with a soft polishing cloth or set in a bowl of lukewarm water with a mild soap (mild dish soap works well!) and lightly brush with a soft-bristled toothbrush. If your piece includes oxidized silver, avoid vigorous polishing to preserve the darkened finish. After cleaning, rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove any soap residue, and dry with a soft cloth to prevent water spots and tarnishing. Ensure your jewelry is completely dry before storing it to maintain its brilliance and prevent damage.
